by Arlene C. Richman, Esq. The Uniform Collaborative Law Act ("UCLA") was drafted by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws ("Uniform Law Commission"). The Uniform Law Commission is a non-profit unincorporated association comprised of state commissions on uniform laws from each state, the District of Columbia, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Its purpose is to study and review the law of the states to determine which areas of law should be uniform. The commissioners who make up the association draft and propose specific statutes in areas of the law where uniformity between the states is desirable. It proposes laws to the state legislatures and it is up to each state legislature to determine if they wish to adopt that law for their state. At its annual conference from July 9th to 16th, 2009 the Uniform Law Commission drafted the Uniform Collaborative Law Act and recommended that it be enacted in all of the states.
